Solo indie developer Niklas Hallin has revealed the launch date for the upcoming retro-inspired Metroidvania game called Alruna and the Necro-Industrialists. This pixel art title will be available on Steam starting on September 26, 2024, but a demo is currently available for those who want to try it out beforehand. Players will take on the role of Alruna, a forest-nymph navigating through underground labyrinths to uncover the story.
In this game, Alruna is a dryad in a dying world, surrounded by The Sprawl and the skeleton workers of the Necro-Industrialists. The game challenges players to question who the real enemy is and whether the skeletons are suffering just as much as the dryads under the control of the Necro-Industrialists.
Developer Niklas Hallin describes Alruna as a unique metroidvania where everything is compact and interconnected, allowing players to explore and progress in a non-linear way. With Alruna’s dynamic move-set, players can break the traditional structure of the game and experience it in their own way, reminiscent of old-school gaming and ROM-hacks.
