This was a pleasant surprise for all Nauties, wasn’t it? Konami stealth-releasing the Castlevania Dominus Collection during a Nintendo Partner Showcase was certainly cause for celebration, especially after the disappointing indie lineup that preceded it. But let’s save those complaints for another time. What we have here is something that fans have been eagerly waiting for since the fantastic Castlevania Advance Collection, which bundled the three Game Boy Advance Castlevania titles into a convenient launcher; Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, and Aria of Sorrow. While many may argue that Aria was the standout title, the story of Soma Cruz remained unfinished on modern platforms – until now. The Dominus Collection compiles the three DS games Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia, all of which are highly acclaimed and costly to obtain second-hand. With this collection, players can now enjoy these exceptional titles at an affordable price. I’ve revived the All Together Then feature to thoroughly review this fantastic bundle, providing in-depth coverage of each game as well as an overview of the collection’s additional features. Let’s dive right into it – All Together Then!
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (2005, Konami)
A game that I eagerly anticipated, Dawn of Sorrow did not disappoint. The ability to absorb the souls of defeated enemies added a new layer of depth to the gameplay. While some aspects like the touch screen interactions felt cumbersome, the overall experience was enjoyable. The boss fights were engaging, but the Magic Seals mechanic could be frustrating. Despite these minor issues, Dawn of Sorrow offers a delightful experience with its vast map, diverse enemies, and captivating music.
