Indie Retro News: Space Invaders

Throughout the years, we’ve covered various Space Invader variants, such as Havie’s Blitz Basic version on the Amiga and the popular ‘Tiny Invaders’ by Pink/Abyss. Today, we bring you another version of Space Invaders for download and play: LC-Games’ full C64 conversion of the classic arcade game created in 1978 by Tomohiro Nishikado. To complement this release, Saberman has shared a gameplay video below.

Here’s a brief overview: “Space Invaders is a fixed shooter game where the player controls a laser cannon moving horizontally at the bottom of the screen, shooting at descending aliens. The goal is to defeat five rows of eleven aliens moving back and forth as they advance towards the bottom. The player’s cannon is protected by stationary defense bunkers that are slowly destroyed by blasts. Defeating aliens earns points, and as more aliens are defeated, the game’s pace increases. Each wave becomes more challenging, creating an endless loop of gameplay.”
