Reviewing the Cash Cow DX Switch: A Nostalgic Experience

Cash Cow DX Switch review

Cash Cow DX, the latest neo-retro Switch title developed by Pixel Games SARL-S and published by Flynn’s Arcade, is set to be released on the Nintendo eShop next Thursday (26th September 2024) at the budget price of £5.99. The game follows the story of a poor cow whose cash has been stolen by an unscrupulous swine, leading her on a journey through well-designed 80s-arcade-style platform game levels to retrieve her stolen funds.

Inspired by classic single-screen arcade platform games from the 1980s, Cash Cow DX adds modern twists like Sonic-style loop-de-loops and creatively designed levels with plenty of variation. The pixel art graphics are reminiscent of the era but with a slightly modernized touch, while the sound features an authentic 80s arcade chiptune soundtrack and synthesised speech.

Although Cash Cow DX may not reach the heights of Donut Dodo, it offers a challenging difficulty level authentic to 1980s arcades. A Practice Mode is included to help players experience the creative level design even if they struggle to progress through the game. A worthwhile addition to Flynn’s Arcade library, Cash Cow DX comes recommended for fans of 1980s arcade platform games, especially those who enjoyed Pixel Games’ previous title, Donut Dodo.
