8-Bit Adventures 2, a retro-inspired JRPG developed by Critical Games, was originally released on Steam in 2023. However, exciting news has surfaced that the beloved adventure will be making its way to consoles on October 16, 2024. Available digitally on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, this game has garnered great reviews, leading many to believe that a physical release may be in the cards in the future.
This highly anticipated sequel follows the success of the initial game in the series, which was released in 2015. Praised by both players and critics as a standout modern JRPG, it has been expertly ported to consoles by retro specialists Ratalaika Games. Embracing the classic 16-bit RPG style from the 90s, 8-Bit Adventures 2 promises 30-40 hours of gameplay with seven playable characters, traditional map exploration, turn-based battles, character stat leveling, vibrant pixel art, and a chiptune soundtrack. The inclusion of airships also pays homage to classics like Skies of Arcadia.
Developer Joshua Hallaran expressed his excitement about the console release, stating, “After seven years of work developing and self-funding 8-Bit Adventures 2, I was overwhelmed and delighted with the positive response that the PC version received. The central storyline, cast, and battle system hooked fans of the RPG genre, and I look forward to sharing this experience with console players.”
