Indie Retro News: Skald: Against the Black Priory

In the 1980s, many of us enjoyed playing Ultima IV on the C64, one of the best RPGs ever released. It featured lush landscapes, dungeons to explore, characters to interact with, and challenging enemies to battle. As a pleasant surprise, High North Studios AS and Raw Fury have announced the release of Skald: Against the Black Priory. This game, inspired by classic RPGs, combines modern design and storytelling with authentic 8-bit aesthetics.

Skald: Against the Black Priory is a turn-based RPG set in a dark and gritty fantasy world, filled with tragic heroes, violent deaths, and eldritch horror. The game offers an immersive plot inspired by legendary titles like Ultima and the gold box series. Players can lead a party of up to six characters on an epic quest full of danger.

The game offers a dark and deadly experience with an engaging plot, tactical turn-based combat, and character customization. Players will uncover the grand schemes of the Gallian Empire while exploring Freymark and the Outer Isles, experiencing unexpected twists and a mix of modern and classic RPG elements.

Key features of the game include equipping heroes, fulfilling objectives, reading journals, exploring hand-drawn visuals inspired by the Commodore 64, choosing character classes and backgrounds, customizing spells and equipment, and much more.
