Indie Retro News: C64 Game Development Platform
Over the years, we’ve brought you a variety of updates from game engines, spanning from the C64 with SEUCK to numerous enhancements for the Amiga via Backbone, Redpill, and our favorite, The Scorpion Engine by Earok. Today, we’ve got exciting news about a new game engine for the Commodore 64 called ‘C64 Game Maker’ by AGPX. This tool enables users to generate C++ source code for simple video games. In conjunction with this announcement, we’re featuring a demo called ‘Legacy of the Lost Spell’ created with this tool.
The “C64 Game Maker” is a powerful tool for generating C++ source code for simple games, building on the legacy of the previously established “C64 Graphics Maker” (with which it is backwards compatible). This new tool allows for coding in a straightforward BASIC language, with a guide available in English and Italian in the .zip file. Within the ‘examples’ directory, you’ll discover demos like “Space Pong,” “Snakes,” and “The Runner.”
