Recent news from Clebin Games reveals they are currently working on a ZX Spectrum 128k remake of the classic 1980’s game Gilligan’s Gold / Bagman. The game inspired several modern versions like Bagman Strikes Back, Bagman Comes Back, and Super Bagman for the Amiga and C64. Below is the latest gameplay footage and some details about the game.
The objective of Bagman is to guide the bagman through different mine shafts, collecting money bags and depositing them in a wheelbarrow at the mine’s surface. Players must avoid guards, ore carts, and descending elevators. Guards can be temporarily stunned by striking them with a pickaxe or dropping money bags on them. The game features three screens that make up each level, connected by shafts and on the surface.
Developer’s Notes: “My goal with this remake is to enhance what made the original games great (unique concepts, strategic gameplay, and varied mechanics) while addressing some of the issues like outdated graphics, clunky controls, and high difficulty level. Gilligan’s Mine also introduces two new levels with distinct graphical themes. Please note that the music and sound effects in this beta version are a bit rough.”
